Electrician

Position Summary:

Island Lighting and Power Systems, Inc. is a leader in the design, installation and maintenance of complex electrical systems in the greater New England area. From medium/high voltage work to sports field lighting to solar field projects our personnel, facility, equipment and capabilities are best in class. We are currently seeking a seasoned and experienced electrician with Medium Voltage (MV) experience.  Medium voltage work involves the installation, testing, repair, and maintenance of high voltage electric power-controlling equipment and/or distribution lines. The work requires knowledge of electrical principles, procedures, materials, and safety standards governing electrical systems above 600 volts. In addition, the work requires general mechanical skills and knowledge.

Candidate must be a professional and personable leader committed to the overall objective of the company.

Responsibilities may include:

The following is a list of the major responsibilities of the MV Electrician:

  • Installing or repairing a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment.
  • Installing medium voltage cables utilizing hydraulic equipment via handholes, manholes, riser poles, and vaults
  • Terminating medium voltage cabling up to 35KV (dead-front and live front)
  • Splicing medium voltage cabling up to 35KV
  • Working from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications.
  • Locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment.
  • Working standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment.
  • Using a variety of electrician’s hand tools and measuring and testing instruments.
  • Requires comprehensive trade knowledge of electrical principles and system operations.
  • Performing work as a Low Voltage Electrician but has specialized experience and training with electrical distribution, overhead wiring, bucket truck operation, and multi-voltage applications.
  • Extensive knowledge in substation switching, distribution switching, trouble-shooting, and repair.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this position you should possess the following skills, attributes, and abilities:

  • A wide and comprehensive acquaintance with, and understanding of, both general and specific aspects of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered in Medium Voltage work.
  • Two years as Journeyman Medium Voltage Electrician.
  • Two years medium voltage troubleshooting and switching experience.

Lineworker

We are currently seeking seasoned and experienced lineworkers with commercial vehicle, heavy-equipment and medium voltage (MV) experience to join our team.

The work involves the installation, testing, repair, and maintenance of electric power-controlling equipment and/or distribution lines. The work requires knowledge of electrical principles, procedures, materials, and safety standards governing electrical systems above 600 volts. In addition, the work requires general mechanical skills and knowledge, and in all cases, will require experience, knowledge and capability with the operation of heavy-equipment.

Drilling Rig/ Foundation Machine Operator

Position Summary:

Island Lighting and Power Systems, Inc. is a leader in the design, installation and maintenance of complex electrical systems in the greater New England area. From medium/high voltage work to sports field lighting to solar array projects our personnel, facility, equipment and capabilities are best in class. We are currently seeking seasoned and experienced equipment operators with drilling rig, heavy-equipment and commercial vehicle experience to join our team.

The role will require being part of a two-three person crew responsible for performing subsurface exploration duties using conventional drilling. Drilling may include auger drilling, mud rotary drilling, air rotary, hammering and coring techniques. The right candidate will provide input as to how to best perform drilling tasks. Also, report required maintenance to supervisor and perform maintenance tasks as required. All work shall adhere to the highest safety standards.

The following is a list of the major responsibilities of the equipment operators:

  • Possess extensive knowledge of vertical drilling operations
  • Must be proficient with drilling equipment and knowing its capabilities and limitations
  • Experience with drill set up and design processes
  • Must be able to develop and maintain a bore schedule
  • Must have good troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Must be able to proficiently use locators to safely identify utilities
  • Demonstrates job skill, procedures and techniques to crew members
  • Responsible for the site set-up and clean-up
  • Safely operates directional drills on job-site
  • Performs site set-up and clean-up
  • Ability to restore and landscape disturbed areas of the jobsite
  • Ability to load materials
  • Ability to clean vehicles, trailers, tools and equipment

Qualifications:

To be considered for this position you must possess the following skills, attributes, and abilities:

  • Possess a current, valid commercial driver’s license
  • Possess current, valid MA Class 1B Hoisting license
  • 3-5 years experience in construction or drilling industry
  • Knowledge of safety policies, regulations, and a demonstrated record of excellent safety habits
  • Willing to submit to a pre-employment background screening and drug test
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
